DISCLOSURE – SCALAR (TEASER)

As you may already know, Yo-ster is not a reporter, nor a pop heckler. Gathering information and spitting it back at you is hardly my responsibility here. This URL is about disclosure and here we have some solid proof of our intention to uncover evidence of pop magnitude.

The new British project is called Disclosure and it’s basically unlike anything anyone else is doing although next year, if the (pop) stars are aligned, it could be exactly what everyone in the world wants to be doing. For the record, I’m speculating quite a lot based on just 3 tracks from their upcoming EP, The Law of One, but not to worry, we are not the type to revel in artist’s failure (unless it’s Wolfmother). So far we’re generally pleased just to see Disclosure exist as part of the pop ecosystem.

Gigi, an evocative 22 year old performer and student of Amy Winhouse’s music tutors, has joined forces with stylish producers ‘TRU_FIX’ and ‘dupe’, or as he calls himself on this project, The Advocate, to form Disclosure. Gigi‘s voice is, simply put, major. A lot of seduction with a little emotion, their dub grooves are mature and carefully composed to the point of perfection. Scalar is a record that clearly discloses pure British trip-pop pleasure. Here’s a clip.

I realize the clip is painfully short. I’d be pissed if I were you. Expect to hear more next month.

Full disclosure (couldn’t resist that one), I’ve been traveling on special business with The Advocate (real name Simon Robinson) and he tells me the EP is officially out on Weapons Grade/Universal Records in the UK November 22nd.

Here’s the song you will be driving away from your exboyfriend to at the end of the summer. Light a cigarette. We need a new word for romance. ‘Perfection.’

How can a song be THIS romantic? POP QUIZ…

a) it’s actually about unemployment
b) it was written while watching The Bachelor
c) it was written on an airplane
d) it’s a cover, dummy

The answer is below.

Anoraak’s been playing all winter, readying his debut LP in Nantes, France. Drinking red wine and writing dreamy lines. That’s his style. It’s almost ready and I couldn’t be more satisfied with this first track. The album should drop in August.

HE WRITES US A LETTER!!!!!!!! -

“This song is actually one of the last I composed for the album, and it was made on a 2 hour flight from Spain to France – except the vocal. Really often when you have an original song on your mind, it’s already composed, arranged, and mixed. It sounds exactly as you would like. But most of the time, when you get the opportunity to record it, or write it down, it’s already gone. “Above Your Head” is the first song in my whole life I had in mind the track exactly as you can hear it now. It’s big victory over myself! The lyrics are all about these moments you spend far from the one you love, especially when you’re up in the air because you sometimes consider this can be your last moments, and you just think about what you’re missing the most.” -Anoraak

In keeping with the biggest pop music trend of 2009, Jordin Sparks is re-using an 80s electro hook for her latest single. The original song, Let The Music Play, was popularized by Shannon in 1983. It was also recorded 5 years before Jordin Sparks was born. The classic record is still in heavy rotation on any given night at any given club in any given borough of New York City. It has sold over 8 million copies, redefined electro and helped 3874899 people go home together.

Now available on Neon Gold shop in the US

From their 1993 LP The Bliss Album…? Cathy Dennis on backup vocals!

CHROMEO: “NIGHT BY NIGHT” MP3

New single from their upcoming third album entitled Night By Night.

“This is our first original song in two years. It’s both more disco and more classic rock than our previous stuff. It’s also the first time we try singing falsetto. We wanted a powerful, heroic track designed to provoke pelvic thrusting, coupled with sensitive lyrics about the fragility of relationships. Oh, and we had to get some talkbox in there, too. This was produced using nothing but analog gear in our new Montreal studio, and mixed in Paris by our cohort Philippe Zdar over the summer. With love, always.”

THE BIG PINK: “DOMINOS”

From their upcoming album A Brief History Of Love to be released 9.14.09 on 4AD.
