Here’s the song you will be driving away from your exboyfriend to at the end of the summer. Light a cigarette. We need a new word for romance. ‘Perfection.’

How can a song be THIS romantic? POP QUIZ…

a) it’s actually about unemployment
b) it was written while watching The Bachelor
c) it was written on an airplane
d) it’s a cover, dummy

The answer is below.

Anoraak’s been playing all winter, readying his debut LP in Nantes, France. Drinking red wine and writing dreamy lines. That’s his style. It’s almost ready and I couldn’t be more satisfied with this first track. The album should drop in August.

HE WRITES US A LETTER!!!!!!!! -

“This song is actually one of the last I composed for the album, and it was made on a 2 hour flight from Spain to France – except the vocal. Really often when you have an original song on your mind, it’s already composed, arranged, and mixed. It sounds exactly as you would like. But most of the time, when you get the opportunity to record it, or write it down, it’s already gone. “Above Your Head” is the first song in my whole life I had in mind the track exactly as you can hear it now. It’s big victory over myself! The lyrics are all about these moments you spend far from the one you love, especially when you’re up in the air because you sometimes consider this can be your last moments, and you just think about what you’re missing the most.” -Anoraak

RUSS CHIMES: INTERVIEW

UPDATE: ELLIE GOULDING – STARRY EYED (RUSS CHIMES REMIX) HAS CLIMBED TO NUMBER 1 ON THE UK MTV DANCE CHART. Well done, Russ. The mix even has its own amazing official video.

Ring, ring, ring. Buzz, buzz, buzz. Delivery! IT’S RUSS CHIMES FROM LONDON! What’s he doing in New York? He’s bringing you his remarkably stylish post modern lust funk. You like it with a little noise on top. He knows. This pop is very hot. Now put your pants on and get to the door, he hasn’t got all week. VALERIE is in the house!

Why does everything sound so good when you hear it on the radio?
Because it’s been past the expert ears of a mastering engineer… probably.

Tell us about your car. Does it have the round radio knobs or is it a digital tuner?
It’s a 1978 MGB GT and it’s blue. It’s got a roof that folds back for sunny days. My radio is digital. It has red flashy lights.

What if they made a car stereo interface with extra knobs for filter and such?
I’d probably crash into a tree.

How many times is it acceptable to use the word knobs in a single interview?
Entirely depends on the context. Actually no it doesn’t, you have 2 left.

Right. We’re all adults here. Your music always makes me feel really drunk even if I’m only a little drunk. How is that achieved?
Sorry about that. I don’t make it when drunk.

What is your personal favorite Stuart Price pseudonym? Including Zoot Woman.
Jaques Lu Cont.

If you were at a party that wasn’t playing big room synthpop, what’s the best you could hope for?
Some nice French house. Or progressive house.

What’s the best commercial or theatrical use of pop in recent memory?
That happy Alphabeat track in the latest Diet Coke ads.

What don’t your fans know about you?
I can totally kickflip.

Thank you, RUSS CHIMES.

*RUSS CHIMES does not have one of those copyright deals where you must type his name in all caps. I did a lot of research for this interview and I have confirmed with his father and mother that RUSS CHIMES was in fact born in all caps just as Ultravox began using hot pink font in the style of florescent tubes. Here’s a really adorable photo of RUSS CHIMES being born.

I am exceptional at research. Thank you.

GUITARS ARE ALIVE

Free Liquor Store mp3
Boomp3.com

Here’s what you need to know about Liquor Store:

they are a punk band
they sometimes throw all their equipment in a pile and pour beer on it at the end of their show
they are from Jersey
they love The Boss
they have the best front man
they have 2 drummers
they have 5 guitarists
that’s it
oh, and we did a totally ridiculous interview with them this weekend

Hi Liquor Store. Where are you?

Festering in the primordial ooze. Flexin’ at Gold’s in Newbridge with my boy Ronnie.

Whats your tagline today?

Fuck em up. Yeahhhhhhhhh budddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Would you be opposed to more guitars in the show?

Right now we max out around 5 or 6 but we’re working on more. The problem isn’t guitars as much as amps. When I get my license back I’m gonna buy a big car and a buncha amps and drive around and basically be the man.

Have you been banned from anywhere?

The drivers seat. I’m pretty sure we’re all still technically banned from most places. Except for [band members] Sleazy and Wolf, they’re legit.

What is the best canned beer?
Camo Black Ice. Busch. They’re all pretty good except for the light ones. Camo is in a league of it’s own though.

Whats better than free pizza?

More free pizza. Free pizza with weed on it. Free pizza and shredding. Free pizza and free beer for the punx.

Are you guys 21? Seriously

Of course we are. Whats the matter with you?

FIRST NEW YORK SHOW: BLEK LE RAT

Last December I had the pleasure of meeting 56 year old Xavier Prou, better know as Blek le Rat, at The Streets of Europe show (Levine) where his work in particular really jumped out at me. It was a rare American appearance for him that he seemed completely thankful and proud about. His giant uneven black and white stencils spread across two giant walls felt iconic, political, cool, streetwise, conscious, and real. Instantly I was reminded why I ever liked graffiti in the first place. It’s almost a year later and in this time I’ve realized his importance not just as ‘the grandfather of stencils’ or ‘the old man that gave birth to Bansky‘, but also as an accomplished social activist. ‘My images are a present I make for everyone’, he insists. Go get your presents! Go!

Blek le Rat’s first New York solo exhibit opens this weekend and will show thru November 15th, 2008.

DRAGONETTE! LIVE! FREE!

Yo-ster.com is pleased to announce Dragonette will do an early live show at Alex English’s weekly Robot Rock party at Le Royale tonight in New York City. Dragonette has been climbing up the UK pop charts for months, working with the likes of Van She and Midnight Juggernauts on flawless remixes we have been dangerously obsessed with since 2007. Just after my 5th dose of Patrone, I (sort of) remember asking Midnight Juggernauts to play their remix of I Get Around at my birthday party. I know trotting up the stairs to make a request in my condition (a request!? definitely sloshed, DEFINITELY) was unwise but it was my birthday, dammit, and I was determined to hear my favorite song.

Get ready New York, the sexiest pop stars in London are prepared to take you with them on a journey through intergalactic pop perfection.
