GUITARS ARE ALIVE

Free Liquor Store mp3

Here’s what you need to know about Liquor Store:

they are a punk band
they sometimes throw all their equipment in a pile and pour beer on it at the end of their show
they are from Jersey
they love The Boss
they have the best front man
they have 2 drummers
they have 5 guitarists
that’s it
oh, and we did a totally ridiculous interview with them this weekend

Hi Liquor Store. Where are you?

Festering in the primordial ooze. Flexin’ at Gold’s in Newbridge with my boy Ronnie.

Whats your tagline today?

Fuck em up. Yeahhhhhhhhh budddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Would you be opposed to more guitars in the show?

Right now we max out around 5 or 6 but we’re working on more. The problem isn’t guitars as much as amps. When I get my license back I’m gonna buy a big car and a buncha amps and drive around and basically be the man.

Have you been banned from anywhere?

The drivers seat. I’m pretty sure we’re all still technically banned from most places. Except for [band members] Sleazy and Wolf, they’re legit.

What is the best canned beer?
Camo Black Ice. Busch. They’re all pretty good except for the light ones. Camo is in a league of it’s own though.

Whats better than free pizza?

More free pizza. Free pizza with weed on it. Free pizza and shredding. Free pizza and free beer for the punx.

Are you guys 21? Seriously

Of course we are. Whats the matter with you?

FIRST NEW YORK SHOW: BLEK LE RAT

Last December I had the pleasure of meeting 56 year old Xavier Prou, better know as Blek le Rat, at The Streets of Europe show (Levine) where his work in particular really jumped out at me. It was a rare American appearance for him that he seemed completely thankful and proud about. His giant uneven black and white stencils spread across two giant walls felt iconic, political, cool, streetwise, conscious, and real. Instantly I was reminded why I ever liked graffiti in the first place. It’s almost a year later and in this time I’ve realized his importance not just as ‘the grandfather of stencils’ or ‘the old man that gave birth to Bansky‘, but also as an accomplished social activist. ‘My images are a present I make for everyone’, he insists. Go get your presents! Go!

Blek le Rat’s first New York solo exhibit opens this weekend and will show thru November 15th, 2008.

Ace of Base has announced plans to release a brand new full length album next year. No word on weather or not Malin Berggren (the blond one) will return. Malin hasn’t been a part of Ace of Base for several years. Ace of Base are currently on tour performing their classic tunes as well as a new track entitled Sparks From A Fire.

Those of you who can not wait until next year will enjoy their upcoming 3 disk Greatest Hits, Classic Remixes, and Music Videos to be released November 10th 2008.

GUITARS ARE DEAD

Victoria Hesketh is a lot of things I love. Firstly, she is a taurus, which means shes a down to earth kind of gal whose whose relationship with pop music frequently nears obsession. Victoria’s alter-ego ‘Little Boots’ is the result of all that. She’s also been caught touring with her hair pulled back in the style of my favorite childhood superhero, She-ra. But what I love most about her is the fact that she absolutely emulates pop music from her very soul. While she has collaborated with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and British pop cult god, Richard X, this project is still very much a solo one. ‘Me, piano, moog, 3 korgs, tenorion, stylophone, lots of tea,’ according to her super psychedelic myspace page. Every Monday she posts a new track to her blog, some are Haddaway covers, some are more like this…

Victoria adds ‘it was obvious to me that indie was getting boring, and things were going to go more pop. So I quit my guitar band.’ We are so glad she did!

PLATNUM – LOVE SHY

This track makes me want to spend the rest of my day booking dj gigs for myself.
